Dear Parents,

Aurora R-VIII personnel will be providing an additional round of alternative educational opportunities to assist students and parents through the remainder of the school year (scheduled end date May 19, 2020).  Packets/information will be provided in hard copy form, posted on the district website and through the Canvas platform for upper grade levels.

Parents may pick up the hard copy packet for the grade level their child is enrolled on Monday, April 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Pate Early Childhood Center and the Junior High.  Robinson Elementary and Robinson Intermediate students will be able to obtain the hard copy and any fundraiser items from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Students in High School will be able to get printed packets from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (extended time allowed due to class schedules varying for students and additional time needed to retrieve materials). After this date, additional copies of packets will be placed in front of each building daily and available for pick up between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Previous packets included only review/practice information for student use.  The new packets will contain information related to learning standards scheduled to be introduced during the fourth quarter.  Completion and return of these packets are not required; however, we believe it is best to introduce these concepts to students and parents to use, as they desire.  Teachers will continue to make contact with parents/students during the remainder of the year.

Times for picking up student items left in the buildings will be Thursday, May 14, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 16, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  School personnel will be compiling items from desks and lockers into bags with students’ names to be provided when parents arrive at the buildings during these times.  We are also asking that you return the device provided to your child (iPad or MacBook), any library book checked out before the closure began (March 12) and any lunch balances due.

Graduation options are being considered.  A survey was administered to Seniors to obtain feedback regarding decisions involving the ceremony.  All information gained will be shared with the Board of Education in order to make a final determination regarding the celebration of our Seniors.

Meal delivery will continue, Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 3 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.), at the Robinson Elementary entry.  If additional opportunities to obtain food are available in the community, district personnel will advertise for these groups.  Please continue to view the Aurora School Facebook page for information.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to progress through this situation.  Better days are ahead!  Stay safe and healthy.

Sincerely,

Billy Redus
